There is a reason we pay to get our dogs a haircut...

Oh my gosh! What a morning. Top Banana and I (read...Mama) decided to give the dog a haircut this morning.

We had been taking him periodically to the groomer to have it done, but each time we picked him up, it was around $50 AND a haircut that is NOT what we asked for. The answer we got each time was..."but it is soooo cute like this!" Well, cute or not, it is not what we asked for. He is a long haired dog and they INSISTED on leaving his head (face, ears, mouth) a lot longer than we asked them to. Yes, he looked cute when they finished, but he is a dog and dogs dig, shove their faces in the water bowl then go outside and try to rub the water off, in the dirt, of course! So needless to say, within 10 minutes of being home, the new haircut was wrecked.

Ok, that was a little background information on why we (I) decided that we should just do it at home and save ourselves the money and aggravation of having someone else do it. It all started fairly calmly, we popped up a canopy in the backyard for shade, pulled out the card table and extension cord (we have to LOOK professional at least) the clippers and some scissors. Off we went on the worldwind haircut adventure. First we decided that since his hair is so thick, we would use the scissors first to take some length off, well that went pretty smoothly. THEN, we whipped out the clippers and the fun began. Did I mention that this dog HATES clippers? I am not sure what he does when we pay someone else to do it, probably sits there like a good dog I am sure. So we make progress up his backside and back then get close to his head and he turns into Cujo, remember him? Needless to say we are scratched up, burning up, covered with hair and down right pissed off at this point. I did not think we would ever get finished. Hours had passed by this time, Little Booger had fallen out the back door, the phone was ringing off the hook, the dog was trying to jump off of the table, I was hungry and ready to be done. Then we had to clip the nails, I might leave that story for another day!

We had a very busy, yet not so productive morning. We did get the dog done, beautiful he is not. He really is a cute dog, when you take him to the groomer! Ok, so he is cute when we do it too, but we are a little partial to the little pooch!

So, the next time you think about saving a buck and doing something yourself, make sure you look at all sides of the story first!

OH, did I mention after all of that, he still needed a bath?!? Wheew! What a day!
